0073 - Cooking with Fr Epiphanios of Milopotamos at Holy Monastery of Iveron

Upon my visit to the Holy Monastery of Iveron last year to partake in the great feast of The Dormition of Our Lady, I had the distinct pleasure of chatting with Elder Epiphanios of The Holy Cell of Milopotamos.


The all night vigil is long and between liturgical commitments I set aside some time to seek out Elder Epiphanios.



It didn't take long to find him, on my first walk to the back entrance to the kitchen, there he was, taking a much needed rest from the hot fire.



We spent some time together, chatting about Australia and the Holy Mountain, food and wine also.



It was a blessing to have spent some time with Elder Epiphanios after so many years.

The tomb of St. Athanasios the Athonite, founder of The Holy Monastery of Megisti Lavra and organised monasticism on Mount Athos. The holy gifts, given to Jesus by the three wise men in Bethlehem in their reliquary kep at the Holy Monastery of Agiou Pavlou, Mount Athos. The largest piece of the Holy true Cross in the world, kept at the Holy Monastery of Xiropotamou, Mount Athos.    A piece of the Holy Skull of St. Andrew the first called Apostle, kept at the Holy Skete of St. Andrew, Karies, Mount Athos. The Holy Skull of St. John Chrysostom, with his ear still intact. It is said that his ear has remained incorrupt because an Angel of the Lord would whisper into this ear whilst he was writing his numerous works. 0054 - The miraculous Icon of Panagia Paramythia - Holy Monastery of Vatopedi

The miraculous Icon of Our Lady, Panagia Paramythia is to be found on the wall of the right hand choir in the chapel that bears the Icon's name. This Icon has been removed from a wall painting in the exonarthex of the katholikon of the Monastery, and is dated by tradition to the 14th century. The Icon's appearance and miraculous tradition comes from the following tradition as told by the fathers of the Monastery. On January the 21st sometime in the 14th century, after the Orthros service was completed, the fathers were on their way to their cells to rest prior to beginning the days tasks. It was at that time that the gates of the Monastery would be opened for the day. They were unaware that the Monastery was surrounded by pirates waiting for the Monastery's doors to open in order for them to plunder its treasures.
