The following photos are from my last trip to the Holy Monastery of Iveron.

Opposite the main entrance of the Monastery.

The coastal tower on the coast. Rumour has it that a tunnel exists from this tower into a point in the monastery. This tunnel however, is yet to be discovered.

The Holy Icon of Panagia – Fovera Prostasia is the treasured Icon of the Holy Monastery of Koutloumousiou of Mount Athos  The Holy Icon is dated to the 13th or 14th century and is located in the chapel attached to the Katholikon (Main Church) of the Monastery.  Tradition of the Monastery tells us that the Icon was the only item left un-scathed in a fire that ravaged one of the monasteries dependencies in Crete. When discovered it was immediately returned to the Monastery at Mount Athos where it is kept to this day.  The Holy Icon has been attributed to many miracles over the centuries and even most recently. In the 14th century, Pirates threatened the Monastery. The Monks immediately rushed to the tower in order to defend themselves and began chanting their Supplication to Panagia Fovera Prostasia. 0038 - Holy Relics kept at Athonite Monasteries.

The tomb of St. Athanasios the Athonite, founder of The Holy Monastery of Megisti Lavra and organised monasticism on Mount Athos. The holy gifts, given to Jesus by the three wise men in Bethlehem in their reliquary kep at the Holy Monastery of Agiou Pavlou, Mount Athos. The largest piece of the Holy true Cross in the world, kept at the Holy Monastery of Xiropotamou, Mount Athos.    A piece of the Holy Skull of St. Andrew the first called Apostle, kept at the Holy Skete of St. Andrew, Karies, Mount Athos. The Holy Skull of St. John Chrysostom, with his ear still intact. It is said that his ear has remained incorrupt because an Angel of the Lord would whisper into this ear whilst he was writing his numerous works. It is kept at the Holy Monastery of Vatopediou, Mount Athos. The incorrupt right hand of St. John Chrysostom, kept at  the Holy Monastery of Philotheou, Mount Athos. 0054 - The miraculous Icon of Panagia Paramythia - Holy Monastery of Vatopedi

The miraculous Icon of Our Lady, Panagia Paramythia is to be found on the wall of the right hand choir in the chapel that bears the Icon's name. This Icon has been removed from a wall painting in the exonarthex of the katholikon of the Monastery, and is dated by tradition to the 14th century. The Icon's appearance and miraculous tradition comes from the following tradition as told by the fathers of the Monastery. On January the 21st sometime in the 14th century, after the Orthros service was completed, the fathers were on their way to their cells to rest prior to beginning the days tasks. It was at that time that the gates of the Monastery would be opened for the day. They were unaware that the Monastery was surrounded by pirates waiting for the Monastery's doors to open in order for them to plunder its treasures.
